Relaxation/card making/favorite store

Ever feel like you don't get enough time to relax and do those fun things you enjoy.... Well this is the story of my life! There are some weeks, well sometimes months, that you just don't make time for yourself. There is always something more important to do than sit down and relax or craft. Do you tell yourself STOP, take time for me? I don't as often as I should, now I have to make appointments for myself to take me time. For me, my me time is crafting. By making an appointment for me to take time to craft, I make myself take time for me. And it works. So last night was my me time appointment, and better yet it was at one of my favorite stores.
Last night I went to make cards at Down Memory Lane in EC (www.downmemoryln.com), I just love this store it is one of my favorite places. Not only do they sell an awesome selection of crafting supplies, they have ideas all over the store, their staff is first rate, and the owner Joann is amazing (and a talented crafter). I always feel like a friend when I walk in, some know me by first name, I am welcomed as I walk through the door as is every other customer that walks in. You feel at home, they are always available for questions. Well they also teach classes there at a very reasonable rate. I enjoy taking classes there, I usually take at least one per month. It was a great time of crafting, learning and most importantly relaxing. I enjoy talking with the owner, actually I probably talk her ear off; but thats whats fun, when we both share the same passions. Even though I am a crafter and teach classes to others, I enjoy being taught as well. I love learning new ideas or new techniques. Plus they have different products than what I sell, and trust me I buy lots of them. I am sooooo addicted.LOL
Do you have a favorite place that you just love to go? I know a lot of people like to go to the big craft stores, yes me too they usually have everything under one roof, but do you really feel special going there? Not me! Yes so they have big sales or cheap prices, but they often really lack the customer service (it could take you forever to find someone to help you, trust me it happens all the time to me). I am a huge fan of supporting the little guy, they structure their business on outstanding customer service. I truely believe in this, as I am a business owner myself, I expect customer service when I am out shopping (I mean really you are choosing to spend your money there, you could spend it anywhere you want, they should be as helpful as possible and nice); So I make sure it is given to the best of my ability to my customers and clients. So for me whether your my nursing client, my customer at Bulldog's Service, my CTMH client/customer, or a student in one of my classes you will always get my best effort to serve you. This is how I feel when I go to Down Memory lane, I know I am appreciated and so are you if you shop there. If you have never been their I encourage you to stop by there, you wont be disappointed. And if you get a chance attend one of their classes or visit them on the web at www.downmemoryln.com.
Of course I will be using some of the products that I purchase at Down Memory Lane in my upcoming Voyagers community education Card Making class coming up on Feb. 9th 2010. Be sure to sign up for this class, you won't want to miss it. (comment or email me and I can help you get registered)
I will try to get some pics posted of the cards I made last night......
Until next time....Happy Crafting and don't forget to make time for yourself!

Biggest Loser Update

Well today is a day of mixed emotions.... I knew today would not be a good weigh in, I was fearful for the worst. But today I am somewhat pleasently suprised, though still a bit disappointed in myself. I had a rough week this past week, I still am not able to exercise as I should due to my back hurting. However, I did not eat well. I was stressed out, which makes me eat more. I ate very late at night which is a total no no. And I ate fast food more than once this week, although I did attempt to make more of a healthy choice while at the fast food resturant. Today I did not lose any weight and I did not gain any weight, so I guess I can't be too upset. I do know that I need to improve this week, I am in this to lose weight. So I pledge to improve over this next week, and hopefully lose some more weight! Until next time, healthy eating to all!

Artwork using new CTMH spring paper packs and coordinating stamps/embellishments

Here is some artwork I received in the mail today from my CTMH sistas. My sistas and I do monthly swaps. Well 3 times a year with the release of the new CTMH catalogs we do what is called Demo Boards. We make a 2 page scrapbook page layout and cards using one specific new paperpack along with the new coordinating stamp set and embellishements. We each take a different paper pack and then we swap them, so we get one of everyone, resulting in artwork from all the new papers. As you know their are 4 new papers for this spring. Your going to love this artwork, my sistas are so talented. For me it is like Christmas every month, to receive their artwork in the mail, I wait in such anticipation for my return package in the mail. We all work hard and do our absolute best, but I tell you some of the my sistas have more talent and creativity in their little finger than I have in my whole body (thank goodness for CTMH's how to books!) In my post from a few days ago you seen my 3 cards using the Veranda Paper (I will post a pick of my scrapbook page layout soon, for some reason I did not get mine back, but I will hopefully get a pic from a fellow sista and then post it) Anyway here is what I got......

These are from the Caboodle paper, made by Sheri:

Weight loss/Biggest loser update

Well its official, for this past week (week #1) of my being on the biggest loser team with my co-workers, I won!! I had the biggest percentage of weight loss -1.65%! WooHoo. Well its a big accomplishment for me, there are only 9 of us on our team (myself and a few Teachers and a few Paraprofessionals) We are a great group on a mission, loose a few pounds. I am actually enjoying this very much. Like I said yesterday I am not making any drastic changes, I love food way too much to do that. And my back has been really hurting lately so I am not really exercising much, although I am trying to walk more when I have a few extra minutes. But I am trying to make more of a conscious choice when I eat, trying to eat a little more healthy. Speaking of which have you ever tried those whole grain sandwich thins, wow they are really good. Curt and Randy think I am nuts for some of the things I eat, but I eat what I enjoy. Since it was too big to cook a full course meal last night, by the time we all got home it was also too late. So we all had our own thing for supper. Well mine was a toasted sandwich thin (only 100calories) drizzled with a little EVOO, then I added 1/2 a avocado and then topped it with Brisling sardines and a little pinch of kosher salt, don't say yuk! it is actually good, and more importantly good for your body (especially your heart). Alton Brown gave me this recipe on one of his good eats episodes on weight loss. Omega 3's that come from fish are very good for your heart as well as avocados. If you like fish give this a try. Well until next time happy healthy eating!

Veranda Paper Artwork

Here are some cards that I made using the new Veranda paper pack!

This is a 6x6 card using creme brulee cardstock, veranda paper, copper brads, creme brulee ribbon, stamped images are from Authentic stamp set, both in cocoa ink. Flower was dyed juniper in color using our juniper re-inker and rubbing alcohol with a cocoa button in center and juniper waxy flax tied in center of button.

This is a standard card using Cocoa Cardstock, Veranda paper, flowers from so sweet stamp set, stamped in cocoa and colored with creme brulee and juniper markers, then cut out, phrase is from same stamp set, also used just blooms spring blossom paper flowers in creme brulee color with copper brads in center.

This is a 3x3 card using Juniper and Creme Brulee Cardstack, veranda paper, just blooms spring flower in Creme Brulee color and a filigree charm.
All of these card designs are inspired by cards designed in our wishes and originals card confidence books published by Jeanette Lynton for Close to my Heart.

Weight loss

Well I joined the biggest loser at work with some of my co-workers. Last Wed. was the initial weigh in. I have never done anything like this before, but with friends doing it also I wanted to give it a try and I needed to lose weight anyway. So I signed up. Well today was my first weigh in, GUESS WHAT I lost 4 pounds, YIPPEE. I am very proud to have lost that 4 pounds, I know its not much, but I feel better. I have not been exercising as much as I should because my back is killing me lately. But I have been really trying to eat more healthy. I love food and I love to cook, I am not willing to give either of these up. I have made it a point to eat breakfest every morning, just a light yogurt. I have been drinking a diet green tea with a 1/2 ounce of pure Acai juice mixed in it everymorning. And I have been taking my Melaluca vitamins. I have increased my fish consumption for my Omega 3's to help my heart. I even pigged out on Saturday at Famous Dave's (I shouldn't have but it was soooo good). I only worked out on my eliptical machine for 5 min. one night this week. I don't count calories or right down what I eat, I just try to make a little healthier choice. And so far it has worked. I will keep you posted, until then everything in moderation! Happy Healthy Eating!
